I cannot believe it has already been three weeks since we brought Caroline home! In some ways it feels like it was just yesterday that she was born, but on the other hand I don’t remember life without her.
A lot of things have been going on during her busy first three weeks of life!
On March 9th, when she was one week old, we headed to Tanya Odum’s studio and had her newborn pictures taken by Sally Gupton. Sally is one of the most amazing photographers I have ever seen. She did our wedding and we are lucky enough to now be legitimate family! Jeffro + Johnna (Sally’s sister) had Penelope in October and now we are both proud aunts to that precious little girl! Sally was gracious enough to spend a few hours getting pooped on and cleaning up poop, but managed to get some AMAZING shots. This is one of my favorites!
Over the course of the next few days we had some more visitors to meet Caroline. Here are Aunt Jamie + Uncle John! John and Jason lived together in college and they now live here in Winston.
When I feed Caroline, I am very rarely alone. This is a good glimpse into the help that I have to get us through lots of the feedings!
Even though we are breaking all sorts of rules with this little girl (lets all be surprised by that one), we broke one when she was about a week old. I was exhausted and I had had enough. So I went to bed after I fed her at 10. Well she wasn’t having it and needed more to drink. So Ja put some frozen milk into the bottle warmer and fixed her a bottle and she drained it. No nipple confusion here! We have a champ on our hands!
About a week after we came home, her umbilical cord came off. I had a great fear of being sicked out by what was left of the cord and everyone assured me that when it is your child, it is different. I am glad to admit that that is definitely true. It didn’t sick me out for a second. I was, however, glad to see it go. I have heard of people saving it for the baby book, but ummm…no thank you. That certainly does sick me out.
One benefit of the cord being gone is being able to dunk them in a bath. So we finally were able to get out her tub and give her a real bath.
Ja was pretty nervous about giving her a bath because she was so slippery, but he did a great job! She cries at first but once she gets the water up on her chest and head she is as relaxed as she can be. She loves getting a bath and I hope that continues. She does get royally pissed off when you are finished and she gets cold. Get ‘em, Sassy pants!
