Mimi

Since Leslie had Anna 3 1/2 years ago, we have always talked about when I had a baby and my mom would come and stay with me, like she did with Leslie.  Now that Caroline is here, it was our turn for Mimi to come and stay with us.  What a great time we had!

Jason stayed home from work for the entire week after we got home from the hospital.  He toyed with staying out another week, but just took Monday off and headed back on Tuesday.  Mom came up on Friday after school and stayed with Leslie because she had thrown her back out and that made things tough with a 3 1/2 year old and a 6 week old!  Monday afternoon Mom headed over to our house and the party started!   We had such a good time.  We were able to just hang out and watch TV and talk and nap.  She helped me with Caroline and was able to get to know her while she was here.  She was also fantastic about getting things done around the house without me having to ask.  I would be feeding Caroline and look for Mom and she’d be cleaning my kitchen floor, doing laundry, or unloading the dishwasher.  She would threaten to pack her bags if we told her not to do something!  She was here to help us and would ship out if we wouldn’t let her!  She also cooked us some amazing dinners.  I always thought I’d have a problem with her cleaning my house while I just sat there, but it really was pretty easy to get used to after a while.

Needless to say, Sunday when she left I bawled.  I tried to be strong and not lose it, but it was inevitable.  I couldn’t even say anything because a) I was crying too hard and b) there didn’t seem like there were any words to tell her how grateful I was for that week.  Luckily, though, no words were needed.  We both knew what the week meant to us.

A couple of things I learned from the week:

1.  You always need your mama, no matter how ‘together’ you think you have things.

2.  When you have a baby it is completely ok to let someone else take care of the little stuff because you will spend hours just staring at the cute little thing (and napping).

3.  I need to be able to take things from people who want to give them to me.  Sometimes it means more for the other person to give than it does for me to take (even though what they give you means a whole hell of a lot, too!).  So I need to learn to say Thank You and leave it at that!

4.  I will always remember that week.  It is insane that it has already come and gone after we talked about it for so long, but that will always be an amazing week and an amazing time that I had with my mom.

Thanks, Mimi!
